What to do about vaginal dryness?
Vaginal dryness is particularly noticeable during sex. In some cases, women also suffer from it in everyday life. Very annoying. In this article you can read more about how vaginal dryness occurs and what you can do about it.
How does a dry vagina occur?
Dry vagina occurs because the mucous membranes in your vagina that are supposed to keep things moist don't do their job properly (anymore). It is a common problem during and after menopause, but it can affect you at any age. It can be caused by a woman not being aroused enough, but also by predisposition, hormones, stress, lack of sleep, smoking, medications for allergies and colds, and some antidepressants.
What can you do about it?
In short: sufficient sex, masturbation and exercises.Regular stimulation of the mucous membranes keeps them better circulated and active. Sex, masturbation and doing pelvic exercises ensure good blood flow to the vagina and keep it in good condition. Reduced desire for sex and less arousal is mainly a mental cause.
Use of lubricant
If you suffer from pain during sex due to the dryness of your vagina, lubricant can be a solution. Putting a little silicone lubricant in the vagina actually always helps, even as a relief for daily irritation due to dryness. It is symptom control, so it does not solve the problem but can be a temporary solution and contribute to a more pleasurable sexual experience. Perhaps that in turn contributes to more sex, which in turn is good for the mucous membranes ;-).
Lubricant is the most common remedy for vaginal dryness. Especially if you suffer mainly during sex, lubricant is very suitable and, according to many, also adds to your sex life. We can provide you right away: Wingman lubricant is a silicone-based lubricant and has special caring ingredients.
Other solutions
Besides lubricant, there are 2 types of agents you can use on a daily/regular basis that are also suitable if vaginal dryness irritates you in daily life:
1. Vaginal estrogens:
This is a medication and you only get it by prescription from your doctor. They come in cream and tablets. Since it is a common problem, he/she will be able to tell you more about it.
2. Vaginal moisturizer or wetting gel:
A kind of day cream or capsules for your down under. You apply/apply it once every few days. It is not as well known and popular as lubricant and opinions differ greatly on how good it is. It is available in the Netherlands without a prescription at pharmacies and drugstores, or over the Internet.
